Mito-REBELS is a team of enthusiastic scientists investigating the causes of one of the most current problems today – the problem of male infertility. According to the World Health Organization, infertility has become a global health issue. It is estimated that 15% of couples worldwide are affected by infertility and that male factor has main role in 45% of cases. The increasing number of unexplained cases of infertile males in the peak of the reproductive period suggests an urgent need for development of new prognostic/diagnostic tool. With more than 100 years of joint experience, the Mito-REBELS team members are trying to contribute solving this problem, by studying markers of mitochondrial dynamics in the spermatozoa of various organisms.
